John 14:16-17 (IMB) I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter , so that He may remain with you forever, namely the Spirit of Truth , whom the world cannot receive, because it has not seen Him , neither don’t know Him. But you know Him because He lives with you and will be in you.
The verse above is often misinterpreted by certain people to say that the Comforter or Spirit of Truth that JESUS meant was a human who came later after JESUS. Of course, this statement doesn’t make sense because if the figure of the Comforter or Spirit of Truth referred to by JESUS is a human being, the question is whether humans can live in other humans and be with them forever as JESUS said?? And if the Comforter was a human being, why couldn’t the world see his form? Then if it was a human being as claimed by certain people, why did JESUS say that his figure was in the form of a spirit and not a body?
Of course , this claim is not true and does not correspond to what is written in the Bible . Then who is the Comforter / Spirit of Truth that JESUS refers to?
John 14:26 (IMB) But the Comforter, the Holy Spirit , whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach and remind you of everything I have said to you.”
So the Comforter that JESUS meant was the Holy Spirit . And what is the task of the Holy Spirit?
John 15:7-11 (IMB) :
(7) I tell you the truth, that it will be profitable for you if I go, for if I do not go, the Comforter will not come to you, but if I go, I will send Him to you.
(8) When He comes, He will convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment.
(9) Concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me.
(10) Concerning righteousness, because I went to My Father and you saw Me no more.
(11) Concerning judgment, for the ruler of this world has been judged.
So the task of the Holy Spirit is to convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. Of sin because the world refuses to believe in JESUS, of the truth that JESUS has gone to the Father (returned to His glory in heaven), of judgment that the ruler of this world has been punished. Another task of the Holy Spirit is that He will teach and remind us of everything that JESUS has said (John 14:26) and He will also testify about JESUS (John 15:26).
It is impossible for the Holy Spirit to make someone reject the truth about JESUS, and it is impossible for the Holy Spirit to make someone not believe in JESUS.
1 Corinthians 12:3 (IMB) So I tell you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God can say: “Cursed is JESUS!” And no one is able to say: “JESUS is Lord!” except by the Holy Spirit.
