The words “Blood Bride” in the book of Exodus are often misunderstood by many people, before answering this question, let’s look at the following verses:
Exodus 4:25-26 (IMB) So Zipporah took a stone knife and cut off her son’s foreskin, and touched it to Moses’ foot. The woman said, “You are a blood bride to me. ” So He let her go when the woman said, “Blood bride,” because of the circumcision.
What caused this verse to appear? Let’s look at the previous verse:
Exodus 4:24 (IMB) In the middle of the road, at a place where he spent the night, YAHWEH met Moses and intended to kill him.
It should be noted that the children of Moses and Zipporah had never been circumcised before, even though Abraham’s descendants were bound by the covenant of circumcision before the existence of the Torah law.
Genesis 17:10-14 (IMB) This is My covenant which you must keep between Me and you and your descendants: Every male among you must be circumcised. You must have your foreskin circumcised, and that will be a sign of the covenant between Me and you. You must circumcise an eight-day-old male child, that is, every male child of your descendants who is born at home, or who is bought with money from a foreigner who is not your descendant. He who is born in your house and who is bought with money must be circumcised. My covenant will be in your physical humanity as an eternal covenant. Every male who is not circumcised, whose foreskin is not cut, that person must be cut off from among his people, he has broken My covenant. “
The reason God tried to kill Moses in the passage above was because Moses broke the covenant of circumcision by not circumcising his two sons. But Zipporah knew what would happen, that’s why she took the initiative to circumcise her son and touched the foreskin to Moses’ feet, saying, “You are my blood bride. “And God let Moses live after hearing the words “Bride of Blood”.
