Another accusation that was leveled at Christianity by outsiders was that the apostle Andrew was accused of being crucified in place of JESUS. Let’s discuss this ridiculous statement based on the Bible and history. The following is proof that the apostle Andrew was not crucified in place of JESUS Christ :
1. All of JESUS’ disciples ran from the Garden of Gethsemane after JESUS was arrested, including Andrew
Matthew 26:55-57 (IMB) At that time JESUS said to the crowd, “As if you were going to face thieves, did you come out with swords and sticks to arrest Me? Every day I sat with you teaching in the Temple, and you did not arrest Me. But all this happened, so that the prophecies of the prophets might be fulfilled. ” Then all the disciples fled away from Him. Then they arrested Jesus and led him to Caiaphas, the high priest. There the scribes and the elders had gathered.
Mark 14:48-50 (IMB) JESUS said to them, “As against thieves you came out with swords and sticks to arrest Me. All day long I was with you and taught in the Temple, and you did not arrest Me. But this happened so that the Scriptures could be fulfilled. ” All His disciples fled and abandoned Him.
2. All of JESUS’ disciples including Andrew went into hiding after JESUS’ crucifixion
John 20:19-20 (IMB) Towards evening on the first day of the week, when the disciples were gathered in a place with the doors locked for fear of the Jews, JESUS came standing among them and said: “Shalom to you ! ” Having said this, He showed them His hands and His side. And when the disciples saw the Lord, they rejoiced.
3. All of JESUS’ disciples including Andrew saw JESUS appearing after the resurrection
John 20:26 (IMB) After eight days, His disciples were again at that place, and Thomas was with them. Even though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said, “Shalom to you! “
If Andrew was crucified in place of JESUS, why wasn’t Andrew who appeared to all the disciples and instead JESUS appeared? Because it was not Andrew who was crucified in 33 AD, but JESUS Christ.
4. Andrew received the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the attic of Jerusalem with all the disciples and other people
Acts 1:13-14 (IMB) When they arrived in the city, they went up to the upper room, where they gathered together, namely Peter and James, John and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot , and Judas the brother of James. They all persevered with one accord in prayer; with them were several women and Mary the mother of Jesus and His brothers.
Acts 2:1-4 (IMB) When the day of Pentecost arrived, they all gathered together in one place. Suddenly a sound came from the sky like a strong wind roaring and filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them tongues like fire spreading out and resting on each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak in different languages, according to what the Spirit gave them to speak.
If Andrew had been crucified in place of JESUS, he would have died and could not have appeared and received the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the attic of Jerusalem.
5. The Apostle Andrew died in Patras, Greece, he was crucified on an X-shaped cross because he converted many Greeks to Christianity
According to historical records, the apostle Andrew died in 60 AD in Patras, Greece, he was crucified on an X-shaped cross which eventually became his symbol, and this became the talk of the town in Greece. The crucifixion of the apostle Andrew was a different year from the crucifixion of JESUS Christ. JESUS Christ was crucified in 33 AD in Jerusalem, while the apostle Andrew was crucified in 60 AD in Patras, Greece. The Apostle Andrew was executed for converting many Greeks to Christianity.
